biker accident

Okay, so I was driving home yesterday and a semi truck was 2 cars in front of me. The stoplight we were approaching was green and the semi was going super slow. Right as it got up to the light it turned yellow and the truck slammed on its brakes. I was so annoyed he went so slow and then didn't even get through the light. I remember checking to see if he was going to turn right like me, but I don't remember if I saw a blinker or not. Anyway, I an older lady on a bike rides up on the road next to me and goes up right next to the semi to the corner. I thought, "that semi is going to smash her if he turns right. Then the light turned green and the semi started to go. It did in fact start to turn right, and the lady realized her little dilemma. She started to turn around and go back to the sidewalk, but the back wheels of the semi were quickly approaching her. They caught her back wheel and she went down. I heard a big POP as the semi bent her bike in half. Miraculously, she did not get run over. I still don't know how he missed her. She got up and started yelling at the semi. He saw her and stopped. I got out of my car to see if she was okay. She was shaking and MAD. She yelled at the driver that he didn't have a turn signal on. He claims he did, and I really wish I remember if I saw one or not. Anyway, it was kind of exciting and also scary. Yes, he should have had on his turn signal, but if I were her, I don't think I would have gambled that he really was going straight instead of turning. Everyone knows that when a semi turns, their back wheels cut the corner. I'm just glad I didn't witness her getting run over.

Mommy, WOW! I'm a big kid now!

Well, we bought Cale a bigger bike for Christmas, but it was from Goodwill and didn't come with training wheels, so I decided that Cale should probably learn how to ride without training wheels on his smaller bike before Christmas. So, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, I took him out to the tennis courts and we started to practice. He really liked it and never showed any fear. If he fell, he would just get up and say, "I'm okay, Mom, I just needed a little break!" Well, we practiced for about a half hour. Then, the next Wednesday, we tried again. I was holding on to him and he asked me to let go. So I did, and he rode all by himself. It was that easy! He has had a few good falls though. Once he ran into a light pole in the tennis court, and although he had his helmet on, he still bonked his forehead pretty good. He's also run into the net a few times and once I saw him falling over the top of his bike with his belly on the handlebars and his arm stretched out ready to catch himself when he finally fell. He's a tough kid though. He never cries and gets right back on his bike when he falls. It amazes me. I think he's ready for the bigger bike!!!

Thanksgiving in good old Yuma

Thanksgiving with the grandparents

We went to Yuma for Thanksgiving. We stayed with Spencer's parents and had a nice, quiet Thanksgiving. We had fun eating tons of food, playing games, and watching Napolean Dynamite. I went shopping on Black Friday for the first time EVER. I found some good deals at Kohl's, but then had to wait in line for about 45 minutes. Everyone around me was grumbling about the long wait, but I was very content just standing there...thinking....alone....without any children. It was wonderful! I just wish I had brought my book with me.
I did end up getting the 24 hour flu on Saturday, which really stunk. The only good thing about it was that I lost all the weight I had gained on Thanksgiving! hahaha. Too bad I gained it all back Saturday night when my appetite returned. But then at church the next day, the nursery leaders pulled me out of Relief Society and informed me that Carli had complained about her tummy hurting and then she proceeded to puke all over the floor. NASTY. I felt very bad for the nursery leaders, but they already had it all cleaned up by the time I got there. darn. On the drive home that night, she was sleeping and then started to moan and cry. So, in one fluid movement, I grabbed the garbage can we stole from Grandma's house and put it up to Carli's mouth. She did her business as Spencer pulled over. Spencer wiped her mouth while I dumped out the mess and washed out the can with my water bottle, and then we were on our way and Carli was back to sleep. Not a drop spilled on the car!
Anyway, enough throw-up talk. We had a great Thanksgiving.
